My journey as a neurodivergent started in 2020 and began to thrive about two years later. At first I was shyly telling close friends that “I might be autistic” to now – proudly sharing my journey with it, so that more people can start harnessing their superpower.
With this episode I want to celebrate a brain that’s relates and processes the surrounding world differently. One of the most helpful things I did – is sharing my suspicion of being neurodivergent with my therapist.
Four years later (almost to the date!) of watching that pivotal video on Youtube: “10 things autistic women want you to know” – I delved into different hobbies and interests. I stopped feeling frustrated with my brain needing more stimulation. I battled an eating disorder (which is, by the way, very common amongst neurodivergents!) with kindness and compassion. I learnt how to play guitar, became a baker, grew my company, nurtured multiple relationships… to name a few “gains” from embracing my diagnosis as a neurodivergent.
Personally I dislike the sentiment and the word itself: “disorder” in the term “ADHD” – because this is not a disorder. It is a way your brain is wired differently to most people and there is more good than bad in that.
(A 30 minutes episode won’t answer all your questions, so I encourage you to do your own research but if you have questions to me – always feel free to reach out on Instagram.)
If you suspect that you or a loved one is on the “spectrum” (ref. to Autistic Spectrum Disorder) – I encourage you to watch the video or listen to the episode on Spotify. And foremost, approach this discovery with compassion, curiosity and excitement. You’re about to uncover something really cool about the brain…
