The point I knew I wanted to interview Daniel, was when he said “It’s not that you have a nervous system… you are your nervous system”. And it just never occurred to me.
Fascinated by his intensity and the way he carried himself, I began asking questions and in return, was soothed by Daniel’s wielding and understanding of multitude of disciplines, spiritual and philosophical texts and narratives. Some of which were familiar, some – were not. And in that, I found comfort of realisation that there is depth that I can explore and – share with others.
In his intentional yet somehow light manner, in our interview he explains a fascinating concept of adopting a hunter mindset when it comes to path of enlightenment. Pointing to the worldview that eventually all the meditation that you do, is about hunting your Higher Self.
The “catch” is just like with hunting – you hunt it – and give it all away.
The circle continues.
Daniel’s professional focus is training people in the approach and discipline he developed, as a result of searching for recovery from a brain injury 15 years prior.
His involves a variety of techniques, which he alluded to during our conversation. A combination of shamanic practices (Half-Moon Way from the US and Mexico), tribes of Peru amongst a few others. He also combines it with the meditative practices of the East developing what he refers to as “Yoga of the West”.
The next time I meditated after speaking with Daniel, I realised that just like tracking an animal, I was tracking something beyond the comprehension of my linear human brain…
